Samurai Lands

Land NFTs are the most recent addition to RisingSun’s expanding ecosystem. Crates containing Land NFTs are currently available to purchase here. These crates contain plots of land situated on the island of Kyushu and will be possible to unbox in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we will explore the utility that Land NFTs bring to RisingSun.

Resources & Land Types

Land NFTs will provide players a way to generate resources. These resources will play a key role in player strategy as a fundamental part of RisingSun’s ecosystem. Players passively accumulate wood after acquiring plots of land. To extract all available resources from a plot of land, players need to construct buildings to serve this purpose. For example, using wood to build a stone quarry makes harvesting stone possible. As a result, buildings will play a crucial role in determining which resources can be extracted from a plot of land. Although resources themselves are not directly tradeable, Land NFTs are. Buildings stay attached to Land NFTs regardless of the owner, making developed land particularly valuable.

There are currently 3 types of Land NFTs: Coasts, Mountains and Hills. The following table highlights some of the differences between these biomes and how they intertwine with resources:

Buildings

Despite being closely tied to resource generation, buildings have additional use cases that add further utility to the ecosystem. In our previous article on Land NFTs, we introduced 4 new classes of battle cards that will play important roles in our upcoming game: Rise of the Shogun. These new cards can be acquired by unboxing Land NFT crates or converting Samurai cards to different classes in designated buildings. For example, a Samurai can be changed into a Monk by building a monastery, whereas a dojo is required for a Ninja. Players will also need to construct altars to repair relics: one of Rise of the Shogun’s upcoming features. All buildings are upgradable to a certain level, but further upgrades will require a library to research new technology. Each Land NFT features a set amount of building slots, making decision-making crucial when strategizing on how to utilize land.

Samurai Card Specialization

Players need to plan properly to succeed in Rise of the Shogun, with the introduction of Monks, Ninja, Archers and Daimyo. Samurai card specialization is a fundamental part of how decision-making will impact a player’s in-game experience. Samurai recruitment itself is an essential part of how new cards are created and puts players in control of the Samurai supply. Specializing a Samurai burns the existing card and rewards the player a Monk, Ninja, Archer or Daimyo class card. These new classes have an array of in-game advantages but lose the ability to recruit, making Samurai cards the seed class for all other battle cards.

The number of recruitment missions a Samurai has completed will play a key role in the specialization process; the higher the number of recruitment missions, the higher the rarity tier of a specialized class. This new feature will greatly incentivize Samurai recruitment.

The table below demonstrates how a Samurai card’s history affects specialization:

As mentioned above, each Samurai specialization requires a specific building. The Daimyo specialization is perhaps the most important and requires a palace. Daimyos will have unique abilities in Rise of the Shogun. While the element of a card impacts the abilities that can be used by a Daimyo, rarity plays an even bigger role in determining which abilities are available. For example, converting a tier I Samurai to a Daimyo will allow players to use 1 in-game ability while using a tier V Samurai makes up to 5 different abilities possible. This gives rarer cards a significantly more versatile playstyle, making them even more desirable.

All of the features outlined in this section are working concepts and are subject to change. We look forward to sharing more information in future articles as we introduce these features to RisingSun’s ecosystem.
